How to get a Swiss Driving licence:
After than a year after living in Switzerland, your foreign driving licence is invalid in Switzerland.
You`re not allowed to drive in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Within 5 Years you can still apply for exchange your foreign License. You`ll get a temporary License valid for 3 month`s.
a. If you are a citizen of one of the countries listed below, your driving licence will be changed into a Swiss licence, incl. cat. C (lorries), D (large vehicles), D1 (taxi).
You will not have to take a theory exam and pass a test drive according to article 44, paragraph 1 VZV.
Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, The Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, Spain.
b. Exempt only from passing a test drive according to article 44, paragraph 1 VZV are holders of foreign driving licences from the following countries:
Andorra, Israel, Japan, Canada, Republic of Korea, Croatia, Malta, Marocco, Monaco, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Hungary, USA, Puerto Rico (USA)
How to enrol for a test drive:
1.Download the application form and fill in the particulars.english translation
2.Visit an optician,make eyetest.(show your residence permit)
3.Go to the Verwaltung of your Commune.
Carry with you: applicationform,2 coloured pics,your driving license.
4.They keep the documents and forward to the Traffic Authority (Motorfahrzeugkontrolle) in Füllinsdorf.
After validation your documents,you receive a provisional driving license and a registration paper.
Be aware:Once you apply,your provisional license is valid only 3 months!
Even you just entered Switzerland!
Please register for the Test only in agreement with me.
5. Start Driving Classes.
6. Practical Test. Swiss Driving License will be valid for a lifetime.
You have only one attempt. If you fail, your foreign license is no longer valid in Switzerland.
On top of that, they charge you with Sfr. 300.- administrative expenses.
