How to get a Swiss Driving licence:

After one year of residence in Switzerland, your Foreign Driving Licence becomes invalid.

You`re no longer allowed to drive in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

If you have a driving license from one of these countries, you do not have to take a driving test or an additional theory test: 

Andorra,Austria, Australia,Belgium, Bulgaria,Czech RepublicDenmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain,Israel, 
Ireland, Iceland, Italy,Japan,Canada, Croatia, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg,Maroc, Malta,New Zealand, Netherlands, 
Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania,Singapur, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, 
Spain,Taiwan,Tunesia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Cyprus and USA.

Exception for Ukrainian Citizen`s:

Exchange period of 24 months for people from Ukraine with Protection Status S. With your Ukrainian Driver's License you are allowed to drive cars and other motor vehicles for 24 months from the granting of protection status S.

This only applies if you do not drive for work. After 24 months, you are only allowed to drive in Switzerland if you have passed a practical Exam.

Within 5 Years you can still apply for exchange your foreign License. You`ll get a temporary License valid for 3 month`s.

How to enrol for a Test Drive:

Kanton Basel-Stadt

1. Download the Application Form. Complete the form.   English Translation

2. You should carry with you: colored picture, your driving licence, foreign permit,
   your glasses or contact lenses (if applicable). CHF 140.00 cash or creditcard.

3. Go to the Motorfahrzeugkontrolle Basel-Stadt, Clarastrasse 38, 3rd floor.

4. After 2-3 weeks you will receive a provisional driving licence (Lenkerbewilligung) and a Registration Paper.
   Please register only in agreement with Me to the †est.

5. Practical Test. Swiss Driving License will be valid for a Lifetime.

IMPORTANT!

You have only one attempt. If you fail, or no show,your foreign Driver´s License will become invalid immediatly.
On top of that, the authorities charge you with Sfr. 300.- for administrative expenses.
